I finally watched Avengers Endgame.

My review: Wow, that sucked. Rehashed Infiniti War plot, Blues Brothers putting the band back together, idiotic fan service rehash of a bunch of movies I already saw.

I hated it, and felt insulted that they passed off this derivative turd as an original work. My wife insisted I watch till the end or I probably wouldn't have made it.

It could have ended about 45 minutes earlier. It was nice fan service and I enjoyed it, but it was somewhat mailed in. It was really hampered by all those stories having to wrap up in one movie.

The best part about Endgame (as well as Infinity War and Thor: Ragnarok) is Thor’s descent into crippling depression and loneliness, with perhaps some redemption on the horizon.

Throughout the past several movies he lost in order: his mother, his girlfriend, his father, his beloved hammer Mjolnir, his brother and his best friend along with half of his entire race; then he tried and failed to kill the one big-bad who had orchestrated much of his suffering and loss (and then proceeded to murder half of the universe) , only to eventually kill him in a hollow too-little, too-late Pyrrhic victory that did nothing to end his haunted existence.

Seriously, all of these latest MCU movies are, to me, just window dressing around the tragedy that is Thor’s disintegrating life.

Life is too short to be watching things you know you’re not going to enjoy.

Blues Brothers 2000 was on the TV tonight. There is no way Endgame could be that bad. Though I haven’t seen either Endgame or the one that came before it or Ragnarok or Black Panther or... probably a few others.

But Blues Brothers 2000...that was very fucking bad.

I’ve had the same response to most of the recent Marvel releases. So with great trepidation I rented Captain Marvel . . . and it was really decent. Didn’t fast forward once. I think most of these movies fall down once you get past the origin story phase and it is a rehash of the prior movies with lame attempts to overcome some super baddie.

I definitely walked away from it with a “meh” feeling...I didn’t think it was bad, but it wasn’t this fantastic movie people make it out to be.

Agreed, very mediocre overall. Also, I’m not sure if it’s just me, but I found myself bothered repeately by the CG in this movie. I could swear I distinctly saw numerous characters “pop in” from CG to actor on several shots where they’d be approaching the camera from a distance. There was also a somewhat jarring disparity between full CG characters hailing from differing sub-series, as if no effort was put in to sharpen up older 3D models or normalize coloring/lighting for those hailing from movies with drastically different visual styles (like Guardians vs. Black Panther).
